Richard Alston - An Italian In Madrid
At Sadler's Wells
This quadruple bill includes Alston’s world premiere, An Italian in Madrid, set to Scarlatti sonatas. The influence on Scarlatti of flamenco continues Alston’s fascination with the fusion of different cultures and styles. Flamenco has links with Kathak and special guest artist in “An Italian” will be BBC Young Dancer finalist Vidya Patel. Jonathan Goddard and Liam Riddick (favourites of the National Dance Awards) reunite to the lilting Mazurkas of Chopin in Mazur – both Scarlatti and Chopin played by live by pianist Jason Ridgway. Martin Lawrence’s brand new Stronghold features an intense score by Julia Wolfe. Finally Brisk Singing is one of Alston’s most joyous creations.
