Well-known to cult TV box-set viewers for his role as The Wire's Detective Lester Freamon, Clarke Peters is an accomplished actor, writer, director and singer. He earned a 1992 Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical for writing the acclaimed Broadway revue Five Guys Named Moe, as well as an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, and Pick of the Fringe in Edinburgh. Peters picked up a Theatre World Award for his 1999 performance in The Iceman Cometh on Broadway. He was Billy Flynn in the revival of Chicago in 2000 / 2003, and starred as Porgy in the original production of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, for which he was nominated for an Olivier for Best Actor In Musical.
