La Traviata

La Traviata

At Royal Opera House

Price: from € 324.40

One of the Royal Opera’s most popular productions and one of Verdi’s most enduring operas returns for its Summer run of performances, with Russian soprano Ekaterina Bakanova and American soprano Corinne Winters sharing the role of Violetta opposite Brazilian tenor Atalla Ayan as Alfredo.

This tale of passion, love and sacrifice is based on the real-life story of the Parisian courtesan Marie Duplessis, whose world is so vividly presented in Richard Eyre’s production with its designs by Bob Crowley. There is a wealth of melody, from the early joie de vivre of the famous Brindisi to the touching ‘Parigi, o cara’ as the two lovers are reunited in Violetta’s final hour. The music spans confrontational duets, great arias and choruses and beautiful orchestral sound, here conducted by Maurizio Benini and Christopher Willis (25 June). Engaging, gripping and touching, Verdi’s La Traviata is opera at its best.
